About the Duck Race Name Picker
Type or paste your class list, one name per line, and press Start the race. Every name becomes a duck that paddles across a single shared pond, and the first duck over the dashed finish line is the pick. A live leaderboard shows who is ahead as the race unfolds, and the race length slider lets you choose anywhere from a quick few seconds to a drawn-out half minute of suspense.
Ways to use it in class
- Choose who answers the next question, reads aloud, or leads the warm-up.
- Pick a line leader or a helper for the day without anyone feeling singled out.
- Run a quick race at the start of a lesson to build excitement before the content begins.
- Decide the order of presentations or who shares first in a group discussion.
A lesson idea
Try a three-minute review race. Put your unit's key words in the list instead of student names, start the race, and ask the class to explain whichever word wins. Because the winner changes every time, students stay alert, and you can run it several rounds in a row to cover the whole vocabulary list without the lesson turning into a quiz.
Good to know
Every name has the same chance to win, and the result is decided by the same fair shuffle no matter how the ducks look while they race. Turn on No repeats and everyone gets a turn before any name comes up a second time, which keeps it fair over a whole week. Projector mode switches to bigger, higher-contrast graphics so the back row can see the result.
Questions teachers ask
- Does it work for a big class?
- Yes. The ducks share one track, so the pond stays readable with up to about forty names.
- Can I use it on a tablet or Chromebook?
- Yes. It runs in any modern browser and adapts to phone, tablet and projector screens.
