Spinning Wheel Name Picker
Same fair engine as the duck race, wearing a different skin.
About the Spinning Wheel Name Picker
Enter your names and each one gets a coloured slice of the wheel. Press Spin the wheel and it turns and slows to a stop, with the pointer landing on the pick. The wheel works with a short list or a long one, and the slices resize automatically.
Ways to use it in class
- Decide who answers next without pointing at anyone.
- Run a class raffle or reward draw.
- Pick a topic, task or activity by putting those on the wheel instead of names.
- Settle tie-breakers fairly in group games.
A lesson idea
Wheels work well for topics as well as names. Fill one with discussion questions, writing prompts or sports to play outside, and let a student spin for the whole class. For fairness over a longer period, keep a list of who has had a turn, and use a second wheel for the remaining names.
Good to know
The result is determined by the same fair shuffle used across the site; the wheel animation simply lands on it. If you want some names more likely than others, try the Weighted Picker.
Questions teachers ask
- Can I put things other than names on the wheel?
- Yes. Any list works: topics, questions, snacks or activities.
- Can I save my wheel?
- The page does not store your lists. Keep them in a note or document and paste them in next time.
