Weighted Name Picker
Nudge the odds toward the students who need a turn. The stage never shows weights, and Quiet mode hides them from your own panel too, in case the screen is shared.
1 = normal odds, 10 = much likelier

About the Weighted Name Picker
Sometimes you want certain names to come up more or less often. Add names with a weight from 1 to 10, press Draw a name, and the picker chooses fairly according to those weights. Higher weights mean better odds, and you can switch on quiet mode to hide the numbers and odds from students.
Ways to use it in class
- Give students who have been picked less a better chance next time.
- Run a raffle where extra entries have been earned.
- Choose topics by how much practice they need.
- Balance participation across a term without keeping a tally by hand.
A lesson idea
If a few students answer most questions, give those students a weight of 1 and quieter students a higher weight. Keep quiet mode on so the odds stay private. Over a term, participation evens out without you having to keep a tally, and nobody knows the numbers behind the draw.
Good to know
Weights are relative, so doubling a weight doubles the chance, not the guarantee. Turn on No repeats and everyone gets a turn before any name comes up a second time, which keeps it fair over a whole week.
Questions teachers ask
- What if everyone has the same weight?
- Then it works like any other fair picker.
- Can students see the odds?
- Quiet mode hides weights and odds if you prefer to keep them private.
