Fishing Game Name Picker
An arcade-style fish shooter. Every name is a mystery fish swimming in the pond. Aim the hook cannon, shoot, and the first fish you hook reveals the winner.
About the Fishing Game Name Picker
This works like the fish-shooting games you see in arcades. Every name on your list becomes a mystery fish with a question mark on it, and they all swim back and forth across the pond. A hook cannon sits at the bottom. Move the pointer to aim, then click or tap to shoot a hook at a fish. The first fish you hook is reeled up and flips over to show the name on it, and that person is the winner. Missed hooks just snap back so you can shoot again.
Ways to use it in class
- Let a student come up and take the shot to pick who answers next.
- Take turns shooting for the line leader or helper of the day.
- Turn the speed up for older students who want a challenge, or down for younger ones.
- Use it as a reward: whoever's turn it is gets to aim and fire.
A lesson idea
Type vocabulary words, animals or question topics instead of names. A student shoots a hook, reels in a mystery fish, and the class answers whatever it turns out to be. The aiming adds a little skill and excitement, and nobody can tell which fish is which before the hook lands.
Good to know
The names are hidden and the fish are mixed up fresh every round, so there's no way to aim for a particular person. Turn on No repeats and everyone gets a turn before any name comes up a second time, with past winners left out of the pond. Fish speed sets how fast the fish swim, and Projector mode switches to a dark pond with bigger fish so the back row can see.
Questions teachers ask
- Is it fair if a student does the aiming?
- Yes. Every fish has a name hidden behind a question mark, and the names are shuffled onto the fish at the start of each round. Aiming at a fish tells you nothing about who it is, so every name has the same chance.
- What if the hook misses?
- It snaps back and you can shoot again. You can have a few hooks in the water at once.
