Claw Machine Name Picker
A real-feeling arcade claw: it travels across the rail, drops into the pile, and grips with three prongs. Its hold isn't always perfect — it can lose a toy on the way up before it finally lands the one that counts.
About the Claw Machine Name Picker
Names sit in a prize pile of an arcade-style claw machine. Press Drop the claw and the three-prong claw travels, drops, grips and sometimes slips before it delivers a name to the chute; that name is your pick. Use the grab length slider to make the wait shorter or more dramatic.
Ways to use it in class
- Hand out a small prize or privilege fairly.
- Choose a student for a special job.
- Pick who reads the next paragraph aloud.
- Select a volunteer for a game that needs one player.
A lesson idea
Put prizes or privileges on the list instead of names, such as extra reading time, choosing the music or being line leader. Students then watch the claw pick the reward, and you can use the draw as a calm behaviour reward that everyone can see is not decided by the teacher.
Good to know
Unlike a real arcade claw, this one is never rigged: every name has the same chance, and the animation just shows the result. Turn on No repeats and everyone gets a turn before any name comes up a second time, which keeps it fair over a whole week. Projector mode switches to bigger, higher-contrast graphics so the back row can see the result.
Questions teachers ask
- Can the claw miss?
- The claw sometimes slips for drama, but a run always ends with one chosen name delivered to the chute.
- Does it need an internet connection?
- It needs a connection to load the page, and then runs in your browser.
